We are fucking terrible at closing out games.. We were 3 up with 8 minutes to go and nearly blew it.
We sit too deep and then hit long balls straight back to the opposition time and time again. That is by far our worst trait..
We seem scared to pass the ball sometimes and it almost looks like we'd rather hoof it up the pitch and get back into shape and defend than risk a stray pass getting the ball and team up the pitch.

I dont think any of the OPs (valid) concerns have anything to do with our style of play.
We could play with any approach and still make basic errors because are squad isn't on a par with the best teams in the league.
Not a huge amount you can do about that, but so far I would say we have punched far above our weight considering the quality of player who we are relying upon.

For me the most worrying aspect is we give the ball away when we should be playing out of defense. Dawson, Diop, Fabianski are the worst, but Coufal, Soucek and even Rice also give the odd wild boot up field or out for a throw in. It's desperate school boy stuff , very disappointing and bring on another attack with little respite. I'm sure it could be improved in training.
I have less of a problem with giving the ball away in attack, which we also do a lot, especially, Antonio, Masuaku, Benrahma and Fornals with poor passes / getting caught on the ball. But combine the two and at times like 2nd half at Palace we can have spells when we look pretty toilet.
Great season though not complaining. Agree with Mad Dog, we miss Cresswell the most. Also for his corners, have we scored from a corner since his injury?

Based solely on the highlights I see (which, obviously includes the goals we concede) I'd say Dawson has a tendency to go to ground too early/often. Sit him down with some video of Mooro.

Ogbonna is 34 and out of contract in the summer. He was always gonna be replaced but it happened 6 months earlier.
Diop was supposed to fill his shoes but clearly he's not up to the task

I think Creswell is the biggest miss from our defence.
With him the centre backs don't have to do as much covering and the boy can seriously aid our attacks, and he can deliver a very good cross.
Diop and dawson would look much better with him back there. This is why we either NEED a left back in the window or give longelo a chance.

One concern about our style of play, is that we are no longer boring and predictable and roll over and die, when we concede first.
I mean, fancy after half the season, having the temerity, to have the most points won from losing positions, in the Premier League.

- In Oggie and Zouma we have lost two outstanding defenders and this needs to be addressed in the window. Cresswell's injury also doesn't help
